Obituary of John Launt

John “Bubba” Launt age 66 of Port Jervis, NY passed away September 13, 2021 at St. Joseph’s Place, Port Jervis, NY. John was born on February 11, 1955 in Port Jervis, NY , the son Willard and Gladys Ernst Launt. John retired as a delivery truck driver for Suburban propane Co., in Port Jervis, NY. John was 49 year member of Neversink Engine Company #1, of Port Jervis Fire Department. As a member of Neversink Engine Co. #1, John held the offices of 2nd, 1st Lieutenant and Captain. Later in his career, John was elected 2nd Assistant Chief for the Port Jervis Fire Dept, and later held the of office of 1st Assistant Chief, ultimately becoming Chief of Department for many years. John was very active in all aspects of the volunteer fire department, and served both his company and the City in an admirable way. John married Millie Theodore Launt, who survives at home. He is also survived by his son, Christopher Launt of Port Jervis, his two brothers, Jim Launt and his wife Clara of Port Jervis, Robert Launt of Port Jervis, his step-daughter, Erika Still and her husband Lewis of Pond Eddy, PA, his two granddaughters; Rylea and Isla Still, his two nieces; Sarah Long and her husband Chris, Shannon Vandeberkt and her husband Rich, his nephew RJ Launt and several great nieces and great nephews. He was pre-deceased by his step-son, Daniel Spradling. Visitation will be held 3-7 PM, Thursday, September 16, at the Knight-Auchmoody Funeral Home, 154 E. Main St., Port Jervis, NY. Firematic services will be held at 6 PM at the funeral Home. Funeral services will beheld 11 AM, Friday, September 17, at the funeral home with Rev. Matthew Newcomb officiating. Interment will follow at Pine Hill Cemetery, Sparrowbush, NY. Memorial contributions may be made to the Port Jervis-Deerpark Humane Society, 202, Route 209, Port Jervis, NY 12771.
