Edgar “Pete” Pettit, age 96 of Matamoras, Pennsylvania passed away, September 21, 2021 at the Delaware Valley Skilled Nursing Ctr., in Matamoras, PA. Pete was born in Matamoras, on May 20, 1925, the son of Marshall and Edna Vandervort Pettit. He proudly served our country with the US Navy, during WW II. He retired as an assistant manager for the Grand Union in Port Jervis, NY, after many years of dedicated service He was a faithful member of St. Joseph’s RC Church in Matamoras, a member of the Rosa-Fleming VFW Post #161, Port Jervis, a member of the Knights of Columbus, Council #471, Port Jervis, and a member of Local #1262, Grand Union of North Jersey. Pete married Inge Farniok Pettit, who pre-deceased him. He was pre-deceased by his daughter Caroline Pettit in 2013. Pete is survived by his cousin, William Culver and his wife Jackie of Matamoras, close and dear friends; Anita Markowitz of Matamoras, Peter and Marilyn Sigreto of Matamoras, Rachel Aschoff and her husband Michael of Matamoras, Lorry McCarthy and her husband Luke of Ancram, NY, Jim Colaico and his wife Karen of Matamoras. Visitation will be held 9:15 AM-10:15 AM, Friday, September 24th at the Knight-Auchmoody Funeral Home, 154 E. Main St., Port Jervis, NY. Prayers will be offered 10:15 AM at the funeral home, followed by a Mass of Resurrection 11 AM, Friday, at St. Joseph’s R.C. Church, Matamoras, PA. Rev. Joseph Manarchcuk will be the celebrant. Interment willl follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery, with military honors, Port Jervis, NY. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, Eastern Div., 121 Executive Dr., New Windsor, NY 12553. Arrangements are by the Knight-Auchmoody Funeral Home, 154 E.
