Obituary of Josefina A. Urpi

Please share a memory of Josefina to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Josefina A. Urpi of Sunnyside, Queens died peacefully on January 14, 2024 with her family by her side.  She was 97.

The daughter of the late Jose Olivella & Eusebia Bertot, she was born on April 28, 1926 in Manzanino, Cuba.

She recently came to the area where family assisted her at the end of her life.  Until the ripe age of 96 she was still the fiercely independent woman that she displayed throughout her youth.  At the age of twelve she would go to Barcelona to study fashion and learned to be a seamstress, designing high end clothing apparel.  She worked in the garment district of Manhattan retiring as an Assistant Designer.   Her family will remember Josefina for her hard work ethic, energetic spirit and the fashionista that she was with the giving heart.

In addition to her parents Josefina was predeceased in life by her husband Ramon Urpi and sister’s Graciela & Raquel.

Beloved mother of Maria Nieves Longano with her husband Carmine of Port Jervis and Xavier Urpi with his wife Jan of Charlottesville, VA.  Cherished grandmother of Vincent, Jennifer, Christopher, Alexander, Nickolas and Michael.  Great grandmother of TJ, Malin, Charlie, Oli, Nico & Jaxon.
