Barry D. Longwell, Sr. age 76 of Port Jervis, NY passed away October 24, 2021 in Middletown, NY. He was born in Port Jervis, NY on August 17, 1945, the son of Clifford and Dolores Williams Longwell. Barry lived on the same corner, at his present address or diagonally across the street, for 76 years. He retired as Animal Control officer for the City of Port Jervis after 32 years of dedicated service. He was a member of St. Mary’s R.C. Church and during his youth he served as an altar boy at St. Mary’s. He was 50 year+ member, past captain and past fire police of Howard Wheat Engine Co. #4, Port Jervis Fire Dept. In his earlier years he owned and operated Longwell Construction in Port Jervis. Barry married Mary Fuller on January 12, 1963, celebrating 58 years of marriage. He is survived by his wife Mary at home, his daughter Michelle Phillips and her husband Louis of Port Jervis, his beloved grandchildren; Marissa Phillips and her boyfriend Brandon Russell of Port Jervis, and Leigha Phillips of Port Jervis, several nieces and nephews, his cousins Gary Williams and his wife Lynne of Matamoras, PA, and Jane Longwell Space and her husband Ken of Warwick, NY He is also survived by his pet dogs “Gilligan" and “Bailey Grace”. Barry was pre-deceased by his infant sons; Mark Douglas and Clifford Stanley Longwell and his son, Barry D. Longwell, Jr., his brothers; Tracy, Douglas, and Frank “Bucky” Longwell. Visitation will be held 2-6 PM, Wednesday, October 27, at the Knight-Auchmoody Funeral Home, 154 E. Main St., Port Jervis, NY. Firematic services will be held at 5 PM at the funeral home. Prayers will be offered 9:15 AM, Thursday, October 28, at the funeral home, followed by a Mass of Resurrection at 10 AM at St. Mary’s RC Church, Port Jervis. Rev. Matthew Newcomb will be the celebrant. Interment will follow at Rural Valley Cemetery, Cuddebackville, NY. Memorial contributions may be made to the Port Jervis-Deerpark Humane Society, Route 209, Port Jervis, NY 12771 or to the Port Jervis Fire Dept., PO Box 1002, Port Jervis, NY 12771.
