Ruth “Ruthie” Smith passed away on January 5, 2022 surrounded by her loving family. She was 90 years old, born August 20, 1931 in Susquehanna, PA. She was the daughter of the late Harry Lawrence and Ruth Bridge Lawrence of Port Jervis, NY. She was the sister of the late Kenneth Lawrence. Ruth was a graduate of Port Jervis High School class of 1949 where she was known for her welcoming and charismatic personality. Upon graduation, she attended the Robert Packer Hospital School of Nursing in Sayre, PA. She was married 66 years to her husband and the love of her life, Alvah “Alvie” Smith who had predeceased her in 2017. They had five children, Roxanne, Amanda, Kyle, and predeceased by daughter Bonna and son Blake. She was a member of the Presbyterian Church for over 75 years and served as an elder and Sunday School Teacher. Ruthie generously served her church and her community throughout her life. She was co-owner of Roxanne’s Clothing Store in Milford, PA. Upon retirement, Ruthie and Alvie owned and operated Alvie’s Emporium located on Jersey Avenue. She then enjoyed traveling and being with family and friends. Ruth is survived by daughter Roxanne Luhrs and husband Thomas of Milford, PA, daughter Amanda Smith of Matamoras, PA and son, Kyle Smith and wife, Virginia of Westwood, NJ. Survivors also include: seven grandchildren: Marissa, Dustin, Whitney and Connor Luhrs. Kiera Smith Brock and her husband Robert and Kaitlin Smith Diaz and her husband Armando. Joshua Smith who predeceased her. She is also survived by four great grandchildren, Hudson, Kennedy, Waverly and Ainslie Diaz. The family appreciates all the support from family and friends. The family would like to thank the Karen Anne Quinlan Hospice for their exceptional care and compassion provided.
