Please share a memory of Sherry to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Sherry Lynn Elizabeth Mohan-Neves of Sparrowbush, died suddenly on July 26, 2023. She was 72.
The daughter of the late James Uriah & Mary Elizabeth Smith, she was born on March 7, 1951 in Hawthorne, NJ.
Sherry last worked as a librarian at the Port Jervis Free Library, but her artistic ability and drive took her into many creative endeavors and employment opportunities throughout her life. She began her career in Port Jervis as a compositor for the Tri-State Gazette; founded Sherry L. Mohan Typesetting & Design; moved on to be graphic designer at William's Printing in Matamoras, PA; and pursued many other endeavors throughout her life, including school bus driving, jewelry making and sales, candy making, cartoon work, and reporting. She was naturally musically inclined, beginning on guitar, but is most known for her by-ear piano playing. She also spent time as a member of the Broome Street Traveling All-Star Band, playing glockenspiel for parades and events. It was her musical ability and love of Port Jervis that inspired her to write “Pretty Little City”, a theme song adopted by the City Council and for which she was awarded a Key to The City. She also contributed to the promotion of Port Jervis' "Leave the Lights On" campaign, the formation of Drew Church's Young Adult Group (the YAGs), was active in the library's book club, and participated in other activities in the city.
In addition to her parents, Sherry was predeceased in life by her first husband, Donald S. Mohan.
Beloved wife of David R. Neves at home. Devoted mother of Elizabeth "Kate" Fields with her husband, Travis, of Colorado Springs, CO; and John S. "Jack" Mohan of Port Jervis. Beloved sister of James Smith, Randy Streelman, Laurie Ardis, Christy Erfer, KC Smith, John Smith and William Smith. Sherry was an aunt to numerous nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews.
