Please share a memory of Neven to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Neven William Snyder, age 73, of Port Jervis, beloved husband, father, and grandfather, died December 14, 2023 at
Bon Secours Community Hospital.
Bill was born on October 3, 1950 in Quakertown, PA to the late Esther (Weiss) Snyder and Neven Arthur Snyder,
and was the 2nd of 6 children.
Raised in Conshohocken, PA and Woodbury, NJ, Bill learned at an early age to love all things automotive. The son
of a milkman, math teacher, and pastor, he worked to buy and rebuild his first car, a ‘53 Chevy Belair. Bill attended
Gloucester County Community College and then transferred to Northeast Bible Institute (University of Valley Forge),
graduating with a Bachelor of Science in Bible.
While at NBI, Bill the basketball player met, stole, and married Deborah Stiles the cheerleader; they moved to the
little yellow house in Center Valley, PA, the house by the Delaware River in Sparrowbush, NY, and finally, the big
house on the Neversink River with the Butlers in Port Jervis, NY. While at school he also met Paul Butler and later
joined their gospel group, The Vestmen. This would become a lifelong singing and business friendship.
Bill and Deb welcomed their daughters Stephanie Dawn in 1974, Stacia Danelle in 1976, and Stalena Dae in 1979.
Bill loved to travel on weekends and sing with The Vestmen. During the week, he and Deb owned a Montgomery
Wards catalog store downtown. Eventually, he worked with Paul providing mobile homes, modular homes, and RVs
for the many customers turned friends.
Volunteering at 1st Assembly of God Church in Port Jervis (River City Church) became more than a ministry for Bill.
The positions of teen Sunday school teacher, youth leader, board member, treasurer, and marriage ministry
leader brought him joy throughout his adult life.
Bill’s hobbies and pastimes continued to include hot rods, games like Rook and Scrabble, traveling, and singing - all
of the time, in churches and at home, with friends and family, and even along with commercials. Eventually, Debbie
convinced him to love puzzling with her.
Bill is survived by his best friend and wife of 50 years, Debbie. He will be lovingly remembered by his daughters
Stephanie, Stacia, and Stalena Snyder, and other family members including Paul & Janet Butler, Aaron & Erin
Butler, Brian & Kristi Butler, Daniel & Sodalyne Fernandez, Samuel & Kristyn Hernandez, and siblings Gracie
(Snyder) & Dale Hill, Robert Snyder, Reynold & Teresa Snyder, Nancy (Snyder) & Dave Petersen, and Colleen
(Snyder) & Scott Metcalf, and their families.
A visitation followed by a memorial service will be held at River City Church in Port Jervis, NY on December 29,
2023. Visitation will begin at 11am, and the memorial service will begin at 12pm. A light repast will be served
following the service at the church, located at 12 Old Greenville Tpk Port Jervis, NY 12771.
